You are deep in the jungle at the back of your closet, rummaging with purpose through all the wrong scarves and bags and shoes. You hear a rustle that isn’t from you. And then the high-pitched sound of air escaping a balloon.
The squeal has come from your winter coat pocket. Your warmest jacket that feels like wearing a cuddle.
You peer into the pocket and the squeak again startles you. Gently rolling the pocket's contents into your other hand, you find a rock-hard strip of Juicy Fruit, a Canadian quarter, the cap of a pen you already threw out, a tiny tapir, and some lint.
A tiny tapir?! You’ve heard of them but never seen one in the wild.
It stands in the palm of your hand, grunts, and seems to fall asleep. A wonder of nature all your own.
