Sharing Things with Zines
how to.
about.
I originally drew this because I was going to teach a zine workshop at my cousin Allison Preisinger’s music gig and realized my old “Bindery for N3wbs” was woefully out of date. And not quite what I needed. I was in a silly mood, so it turned into a Dr. Seuss inspired manual. Though I did give up on the rhyming scheme once I got to the instructions.
For character design, I started by studying some Dr. Seuss characters. I wanted to do a Dr. Seuss version of our dog Wally
When I decided on some character design, I did a page of each of the main two characters.
The narrator, the Wally-inspired character, is a stand-in for me.
And the Lorax-inspired fella is the stand-in for you, the reader.
This project was a good excuse for me to practice inking with a brush. I was experimenting with many techniques to see what felt best while my carpal/cubital tunnel was at its worst.
P.S. The C/C tunnel is much better, now. 🙂
